In the quiet Himalayan village of Kasar Devi, where pine-scented air meets morning mist, Kartavya Karma Experience Studio has added something beautifully new to its bouquet of creative offerings — the Eco-Prints Workshop.
This isn’t just a craft class. It’s an immersion into nature, an invitation to walk barefoot on the earth, pick your own leaves and petals, and transform them into living art.
It’s where you don’t just create — you co-create with nature.

What Is Eco-Printing?
Eco-printing is the magical process of imprinting natural colors and patterns from leaves, flowers, and plants onto fabric or paper. Instead of using artificial dyes, participants gather botanical materials from the surrounding Himalayan forest — marigold, rose, rhododendron, oak, fern, and pine — and use their natural pigments to create stunning organic imprints.
The result?Every print is one-of-a-kind, carrying the texture, color, and soul of the plant that created it.
This technique combines art, sustainability, and mindfulness, celebrating the relationship between human creativity and nature’s palette.
The Workshop Experience
The Eco-Prints Workshop at Kartavya Karma is a slow, sensory, and joy-filled journey — blending nature walks, art, and storytelling.
Step 1: Nature Walk & Collection
Participants begin with a guided eco-walk through the green slopes of Kasar Devi. With baskets in hand, they gather fallen petals, leaves, barks, and flowers — learning to identify which plants produce the richest colors. The walk itself becomes meditation — listening to the wind, touching textures, breathing in the forest.
Step 2: Crafting Your Composition
Back in the Kartavya Karma Studio, the table transforms into a creative playground. Under expert guidance, participants learn to arrange their collected materials on organic cotton or handmade paper, exploring design, layering, and balance.
Step 3: The Printing Process
The arranged materials are wrapped carefully, steamed, and pressed using natural mordants (like alum or iron water). As heat unlocks the pigments, magic unfolds — the colors and shapes of nature transfer directly onto fabric, leaving delicate, permanent imprints.
When unwrapped, every piece tells a story — of a flower’s journey, a leaf’s veins, a color that once lived under the sun.
Step 4: Reflection & Sharing
The workshop ends with an open circle — tea, conversation, and sharing of art pieces. Each participant leaves with their own handmade eco-printed creation — a scarf, tote bag, or journal cover — along with a renewed connection to the natural world.
